Directions

Directions by public transit

The Zimmerli is a short walk from the NJ Transit New Brunswick train station, midway between New York City and Philadelphia. Once you leave the station, just walk one block north on College Avenue to Hamilton Street. Then walk one block east to get to the museum.

  • New Jersey Transit’s Northeast Corridor line provides New Brunswick with both local and express service between Penn Station in New York and Newark and Trenton, New Jersey. (For information, 1-973.275.5555).
  • SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority) provides service at Trenton to and from Philadelphia. (For information, 215.580.7800).
  • Amtrak provides limited direct service to New Brunswick, however, connections can easily be made via New Jersey Transit trains to principal Amtrak stations at MetroPark, New York, and Trenton. (For information, 1.800.USA.RAIL).

Directions by car

New Jersey Turnpike North or South

  • Turn off at Exit 9. After toll booths bear to the right; follow signs for “Route 18 North – New Brunswick.”
  • Follow directions for Route 18 North below.

Garden State Parkway South, coming from northern New Jersey

  • Turn off at Exit 129 for the New Jersey Turnpike and head south to Exit 9.
  • Follow directions to campus from Route 18 North below.

Garden State Parkway North, coming from southern New Jersey

  • Turn off at Exit 105 and follow signs for Route 18 North.
  • After approximately 24 miles you will pass the entrance for the New Jersey Turnpike and continue on Route 18 North.
  • Follow directions to campus from Route 18 North below.

Route 1 North or South

  • Turn off at exit marked “Route 18 North-New Brunswick”
  • Follow directions to campus from Route 18 North above.

Route 18 North                                                                   

Proceed north on Route 18 past exit for “Route 27” and take the exit marked “George Street – Rutgers University” (approximately 2.6 miles from Turnpike). Note: This is the second George Street exit.

  • Turn left onto George Street at the top of the exit ramp.
  • Zimmerli Art Museum is on the right at the corner of George and Hamilton streets at the first traffic light.

Route 287 North or South

  • Turn off at Exit 9 “River Road, Bound Brook, Highland Park.”
  • Proceed east on River Road toward Highland Park until you reach the fifth traffic light (approximately 3.4 miles) at the intersection of River Road and Route 18.
  • Turn right onto Route 18 South and cross the Raritan River on the John Lynch Memorial Bridge.
  • Stay in the right lane and take the first exit, which is marked “George Street – Rutgers University, New Brunswick.”
  • Zimmerli Art Museum is at the corner of George and Hamilton streets.

Parking

Metered parking is available on adjacent streets; additional paid parking is available in the Gateway Center Parking Garage. Parking for the disabled is available in front of the museum.
